Steven

Experienced and patient Math Tutor

I am a former Wall Street quant with degrees in Math, Computer Science and Finance. I have been tutoring since my days on the Math Team at Stuyvesant HS. I was a high school teacher for a brief time and, more recently, I taught Probability and Statistics at Stony Brook University for a few years, where I received the President's Award for Excellence in Teaching. I tutor the high school basics (Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2), the advanced courses (PreCalculus, AP Calculus, and AP Sta...

We have been very lucky to find Steve , he answered us on a last minute search for a tutor, on a night before a big Precalculus test for my 11th grade daughter. He has since been a regular once a week tutor helping with the regular Precalculus program and SAT preparations . Steve is reliable , calm , patient, focused and a very talented teacher , who understands how to break it in simple steps to make it easier to approach . My daughter has been doing very well under his guidance . As a mother , I appreciate his punctuality, and most of all his personality . He knows how to relate to my daughter and adjust his tutoring to her needs. He is very sweet and does not position himself as an overwhelming math teacher , but rather as a very knowledgeable support figure who cares . In simpler words , he is a gem and a keeper .

My son took a Statistics during the winter session. As we all know the winter session is only 3 weeks and is very intense. He was with a grade of 61 before we had Steve tutor my son. That being said, Steve began tutoring the 3 days only before the semester was over. To make the long story short, my son got a B for that semester. It might be helpful to know that he not only taught my son the lesson he instilled organizational skills, and study habits in that very short time. I wish Steve was close to my son's college and could cover all subjects in the Nursing program. If anyone is in need of a great tutor, my son himself will tell you to go look for Steve. Up to today he compares his tutoring methodology with his current professors and try to use the skills he learned in such a short time.

Steve is an excellent math tutor who's level of professionalism and precise commitment to detail is hard to match. He communicates with great clarity and understands the strengths and challenges of each student. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking to improve their grades.

Craig G. from Huntington Station, NY

Steve was fantastic! Steve has a deep understanding of the material he tutors with the ability to help the student comprehend. Because of Steve I went from a C- to a B+ in a month. Thank You Steve.

Lisa H. from Huntington, NY

All of our lessons have been great. Steve has been working very well with our son, and our son responds to his instruction.

Carolyn B. from Melville, NY

Steve has been a very kind and positive teacher. He has helped with algebra last year and geometry this year. We are pleased and happy with him.

Barbara Z. from Plainview, NY

Steve is a magician. My daughter had struggled with math for many years, and she had worked with many different tutors, to dismal results. Although she was virtually failing her statistics course as a college freshman, Steve pulled a rabbit out of a hat and taught her the basic principles so that she actually understood them. She wound up with a B- for the course, and I couldn't be happier!

Alexandra P. from Huntington, NY

Steven. W gets the message through to my daughter. She enjoys her sessions with him and looks forward their meeting.

Carrie D. from East Northport, NY

Steve is a great tutor. He is easy to reach by phone or email, and he is very thorough, prepared, patient and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend him.

Daniel D. from Mount Sinai, NY

I've been very pleased with Steven. I wouldn't have been able to keep up with the pace of my grad school classes without the lessons I had with over the summer.

Cathy H. from Hempstead, NY

Steven has provided homework assistance for a Discrete Math class I was taking in college. He has a knack for breaking down difficult problems into simpler terms. All of my scores were in the 90's, so that says a lot about his tutoring skills. Thank you, Steven! I couldn't have done it without you!

Bryan F. from Plainview, NY

Steve was quick to reply and follow up and his tutoring was very helpful. My son is a college freshman who needed a statistics session and Steve was very good. I highly recommend him.

Joe C. from Centerport, NY

Awesome tutor. Took a subject that I have very little interest in, and at least made it bearable. Conveyed the subject matter in practical terms, relating the the topics to every day practical life. Highly recommend!

Jeff A. from Saint James, NY

Steven is an outstanding tutor. I really struggled with Calculus II. I had five tutors (not from Wyzant) before Steve who did not understand the complex math. Steve was incredibly knowledgeable. He also insisted that I learn the material thoroughly. His lessons were excellent. He is not just fantastic at math, he is a great teacher. I was able to get the grade I needed to graduate my engineering program. Thanks Steve.

Olympia R. from Oyster Bay, NY

Steven is very knowledgeable, he helped my son to prepare for the final algebra test. He is also very patient. Highly recommended.

Howard B. from Woodbury, NY

Everything I needed to learn he taught and we performed. He is a great tutor! Highly Recommendable to anyone and everyone.

Lisa C. from Huntington Station, NY

My tests have gone up two letter grades consistently. Steven thoroughly helped me prepare for the Regents test tomorrow. He has way of tutoring that helped me understand the concepts.

Kathleen B. from West Islip, NY

Steven has been wonderful for both my sons, who are very different learners. My 10th grader is good in math and motivated. My 8th grader struggles and hates school. Steven is able to keep both of them engaged and learning at their individual speeds. He's recommended books and brought his own work sheets. He is EXTREMELY patient. We feel very fortunate to have found him.

Matthew P. from Farmingdale, NY

Steven was very knowledgeable and helpful while reviewing the GMAT math portion. He gave me a detailed explanation on how he reached each answer and was patient while going over anything I did not understand.

Hannah Y. from Stony Brook, NY

It was really helpful to go over the thinking process for structural induction and defining recursive definitions. The explanations were really clear, and I was able to follow along. Steven was also really good with the problem solving, and I'm really happy to have found him as a tutor for this subject area (discrete mathematics for computer science). Steven also pointed out prerequisites that I should have (but don't) for this subject, which will be really helpful for me in the long run.

Jillian L. from Huntington, NY

Steven is a very patient and thorough teacher. Makes sure everything is covered in each lesson and makes sure when student has grasped the concept. Also very flexible with his time very and rescheduling lessons.

Mariam Z. from Farmingdale, NY

He taught me Calculus and he was very clear and patient. He also helped review and practice the problems. Extremely helpful. Thank you Steve!

Jan U. from Syosset, NY

The first give away about Steve was that his message was personal. Many tutors on here use messages to try and grab students that are already automated or do not seem personal at all. The message received from Steve was the opposite of that. He was also very understanding, flexible and knowledgeable about the subject. Keeping lessons interesting with a few jokes. Highly recommended Tutor brought my score up tons for the GMAT.
